It’s bitter cold days like these
Between alley ways and trees
Between the river and the birds
Up the stairs, overlooking the world
The heating of a city visible in melted patterns
The shuffling of feet, the destination all that matters
We seek the warmth of glowing faces
Happy people in happy places
Alight with sounds of cooking spaces and brewing beer
And winter cheer.
All year we celebrate this community
All winter we think of those river days fondly
But all the warmth of summer can’t replace
The feeling I have when I see these people
These people that make Newaygo special
